An indicative list of must-have items on a trek, or in general, any off-beat trip as well!
For one day treks–
Safety Pins/Rubber bands (often overlooked but critical in emergencies)
Electrolyte Powder/Drink (Electral/Gatorade)
Fruit Juice/Fruit drink (Avoid Carbonated drinks)
Ready to eat foods like Biscuits/Cakes/Small Chocolate bars
First Aid kit
Map of the trek/ Trek region
Painkiller (for emergencies only)
Multi Tool/Swiss Army Knife
Plastic sheet to wrap electronic devices
Powerbank for Cellphone/ Spare Battery (optional)
For Multi day treks, In addition to above-
Utensils to cook
-Always carry a bit of extra cash and preferably in different places (I have learnt this the hard way 😛 )
-Always make sure someone knows where you are going (You have seen 127 Hours, right?)
-Always check transport options from faraway settlements and the timings for last Bus/Train
-Wear clothes that won’t restrict your movement and also protect you from Insects like Trackpants & full sleeved T shirts, etc.
-Never wear valuables or Gold jewellery on treks.
-Do not Smoke, litter or vandalize.
-Do not consume Liquor or other intoxicants while trekking.
